Nelson Head Lighthouse

Also known as Nelson Head Inner Light, this is a rather unusual lighthouse located on Nelson Head, northeast of the town of Nelson Bay on the southern shore of Port Stephens. The light is no longer active but in the past it guided ships into the port. The light was shown through the window of the lantern room, and later mounted outside.

History

The station was established in 1872, four kerosene lamps shown from a wooden tower. The light was first shown from the octagonal lantern room attached to the cottage in 1876.
